While often recognized for its resinous luster and wide range of colors, polished sphalerite occasionally reveals natural crystal-lined cavities that formed as mineral-rich fluids circulated through the developing stone.
 
This polished sphalerite sphere features dramatic open vugs lined with sparkling druzy quartz crystals, creating a striking contrast against the deep charcoal-gray sphalerite. Flowing bands of translucent chalcedony weave through the specimen, while numerous interconnected crystal-lined cavities create remarkable depth and texture from every angle. Small areas of natural iron oxide staining and mineral inclusions further highlight the specimen's geologic history.
