A richly colored petrified wood slab featuring exceptionally visible wood grain in deep burgundy, amber, golden orange, smoky brown, and muted violet tones.

Measuring approximately 6.3" x 4.3", this specimen has been cut and polished to reveal dense bands of preserved woody structure across the face. Fine parallel grain remains visible throughout much of the slab, intersected by broader bands and irregular mineralized areas that give the piece considerable depth.

The color is the standout feature here. Deep wine-red and burgundy sections run through the center, surrounded by glowing amber and ochre along the perimeter. Depending on the lighting and viewing angle, some of the darker areas shift toward plum and smoky violet, making the slab look dramatically different under direct sunlight versus softer indoor light.

Natural fractures, mineral-filled seams, and areas of rough exterior remain visible throughout the specimen, preserving some of its original character alongside the polished face.

Petrified wood forms when buried wood is gradually mineralized, with mineral-rich water depositing silica and other minerals within the original structure. Over time, the organic material is replaced while portions of the tree's microscopic and visible structure can remain preserved in stone.

As a natural fossil specimen, this piece contains fractures, pits, mineral-filled seams, irregular edges, and other naturally occurring characteristics, all of which are visible in the photographs.
