This framed Nepa rubra specimen, commonly known as the red water scorpion or red toe biter, features an elongated body, spread wings, and distinctive twin tail filaments that serve as breathing appendages and extend beyond the lower abdomen. The natural rust-red tones contrast sharply against a dark backing, giving the piece a quiet but unsettling presence.
 
Presented simply in a grey frame, this piece leans into the insect’s unusual form without embellishment, specimen-forward and intentionally restrained.
