Football agate is a variety of chalcedony formed when silica-rich fluids fill cavities within volcanic rock. Variations in mineral content during formation create contrasting bands, inclusions, and occasional crystal-lined openings that remain visible after polishing.
This polished football agate sphere displays deep gray chalcedony accented by striking red mineral inclusions and multiple natural druzy-lined cavities. Areas of translucent agate reveal subtle internal banding, while exposed crystal pockets add texture and depth across the surface. Under ultraviolet light, portions of the agate fluoresce a vivid green, highlighting internal structures not readily visible under normal lighting.
Selected for its strong color contrast, natural crystal exposure, and UV-reactive character, this specimen presents a distinctly geological appearance from every angle.
