A striking matched pair of agatized coral from Florida, cut from the same specimen and polished to reveal layers of delicate white and pale blue-gray agate surrounding expansive pockets of botryoidal chalcedony.

Both halves are dominated by beautifully preserved open cavities filled with rounded, cloud-like chalcedony formations. Fine concentric banding follows the irregular contours of the original coral, creating intricate borders around the cavities and smaller pockets throughout each piece. Areas of the natural coral matrix remain along the edges, providing texture and contrast against the polished interior.

The two halves mirror one another while retaining subtle differences in their exposed formations, making them especially appealing displayed together. They can be positioned side by side as a pair or separated to show the complementary internal structures.

Agatized coral forms when silica-rich groundwater replaces the original coral material with chalcedony over geologic time, preserving portions of its structure while filling internal spaces with agate and crystalline material.

Under UV light, portions of the pair display subtle fluorescence that highlights the agate banding and internal formations, providing an additional way to appreciate the specimens.
