A striking matched pair of agatized coral from Florida, cut from the same specimen and polished to a mirror finish. Deep, nearly black agate fills much of each face, creating dramatic contrast against the cream and white preserved coral structure.

Numerous natural openings interrupt the glossy black agate, including druzy-lined pockets and boring holes preserved within the specimen. Fine layers of agate follow the irregular perimeter and wind around the cavities, becoming especially pronounced under UV light.

Under normal lighting, the exceptionally dark agate gives the pair an almost graphic black-and-white appearance. Under UV, portions fluoresce blue-white and the otherwise subtle agate banding becomes dramatically more visible, revealing considerably more internal structure than can be seen in daylight.

Agatized coral forms when silica-rich groundwater replaces the original coral material over time, preserving portions of its structure in chalcedony and agate. Voids and openings may remain or later develop crystalline linings, producing the complex combination of polished agate, open cavities, and druzy seen in this pair.

Natural pits, cavities, fractures, irregular edges, and other features are inherent to the specimen.
