A one-of-a-kind curated natural history collection bringing together fossils, minerals, zoological specimens, and an entomological display, with pieces spanning ancient life through the modern natural world.
The collection is anchored by a substantial 3.9" partial megalodon tooth. Although incomplete, the tooth retains visible serrations along the cutting edges rather than having them worn smooth, preserving one of the most recognizable features of this enormous prehistoric shark.
A complete wild mink fur provides a dramatic zoological specimen. This is a genuinely wild-sourced specimen, with the natural variation in coloration, size, and fur characteristic of a wild animal. Flora & Bone strictly does not support or source from fur farms.
The entomological specimens include a striking turquoise weevil displayed with its wings spread in an approximately 5.8" × 5.8" wooden frame, as well as a tiny piece of Burmese amber measuring approximately .84". Suspended within the transparent golden amber is a small ant-like insect inclusion, preserving a minute glimpse of ancient life.
Marine natural history is represented by a dried Mexican sun star (Heliaster kubiniji), notable for its numerous radiating arms, while a modern alligator scute provides an example of the heavily textured dermal armor found along an alligator's body.
The collection also includes a piece of slate from St. Clair, Pennsylvania, bearing contrasting fossil plant impressions. The famous St. Clair material preserves Carboniferous-age plant fossils as pale mineralized impressions against dark shale, creating exceptionally recognizable botanical fossils.
Three polished mineral specimens complete the collection. A vivid red Malawi agate displays saturated orange-red coloration surrounded by a lighter crystalline edge. A substantial piece of tiger's eye shows the shifting golden chatoyancy for which the material is known; please see the listing video to view the effect as the specimen moves in the light. A polished bumblebee jasper teardrop adds contrasting yellow, cream, gray, and olive-toned patterning.
Together, the ten specimens create a deliberately varied collection encompassing paleontology, zoology, entomology, marine life, and mineralogy rather than focusing on a single branch of natural history.
