A curated collection celebrating some of the remarkable forms, colors, and structures found throughout the natural world, from iridescent insect anatomy and mammalian bones to crystalline minerals and woodland fungi.

Designed as an accessible introduction to natural history collecting, this collection brings together four very different objects: a preserved turquoise weevil, a natural moonstone tower, an assortment of small rodent bones, and a miniature woodland display featuring a real preserved mushroom. Each offers something different to observe and makes an intriguing addition to a curiosity cabinet, bookshelf, desk, or natural history collection.

The turquoise weevil (Eupholus linnei) is native to New Guinea and immediately stands out for its brilliant blue-green coloration. Unlike colors produced primarily by pigments, much of the striking appearance of Eupholus weevils results from microscopic structures that interact with and reflect light. The specimen is mounted beneath a clear dome for protected display.

A polished natural moonstone tower adds a geological element to the collection. Moonstone is a feldspar prized for the soft, floating optical effect known as adularescence, produced as light interacts with microscopic structures within the mineral.

The collection also includes a small glass vial containing an assortment of naturally cleaned rodent bones. Though diminutive, these bones offer an opportunity to examine the surprisingly intricate skeletal anatomy of small mammals up close. Each vial will contain a partial skull.

Completing the collection is a miniature woodland dome handmade by Flora & Bone using a real preserved mushroom alongside dried botanical materials. Each is individually assembled, so the exact mushroom, plants, arrangement, colors, and overall appearance will vary naturally from one piece to another.

All four pieces are arranged together in a kraft presentation box with protective paper fill and accompanied by an informational card describing the collection.

Because natural specimens are inherently unique, no two collections will be identical. The photographs show representative examples. You will receive the same types of specimens and displays listed below, but exact size, shape, coloration, patterning, preservation, bone assortment, and botanical arrangement will vary.
