This substantial specimen is covered in an extraordinary mix of saturated blues and greens. Deep cobalt and indigo azurite spreads across broad areas of the matrix, contrasting with vivid green malachite and blue-green chrysocolla. Creamy white to translucent quartz adds another layer of texture, appearing in crystalline masses throughout the specimen.
The mineralization changes dramatically as the piece is turned. One face is dominated by intense, velvety blue coloration, while other surfaces reveal brighter greens, pale quartz, scattered blue inclusions, and areas where the different copper minerals intermingle. Its irregular natural form and considerable weight give it excellent presence as a cabinet specimen.
Azurite, malachite, and chrysocolla are all secondary copper minerals and are frequently found together in the oxidized zones of copper deposits. Their dramatically different shades of blue and green can create exceptionally colorful associations like the one seen here.
